We’re so glad friends referred us to Music for Creative Families! Dana is amazing! This was our first experience with piano lessons for our 8-year-old and not only is our kiddo playing piano, they do so voluntarily, and with joy. After a year they are spending as much time experimenting with their own musical creations as they do on their formal lessons. Dana’s approach is structured while leaving room for kids to be who they are, which is such a gift.

There’s a lot of variation in a half-hour’s visit — from exposure to different musical forms, to rhythm on drums to improvisation and conversation about the kind of music your child likes. Time at the keyboard is focused and Dana offers lots of positive, constructive feedback. These lessons provides the basis for a lifelong love of music.

Our twins have been taking piano lessons with Dana for about a year now, and it’s been delightful and awe-inspiring, watching them develop and progress over even a short period. Although they’ve been moving through the same workbooks, we really appreciate how Dana’s teaching style is guided by each girl’s character, and doesn’t follow a ‘one size fits all’ philosophy. Piano is at the heart of the lessons, but they’re about much more – she’s really created a way for them to listen to and engage with music of all sorts.

Dana is a remarkable teacher, and genuinely interested in encouraging a love of music in children. Our nine year old is now in their third year of learning with Dana, and they continue to really look forward to and delight in music lessons. They wanted to add soccer to their after-school schedule, but only on a non-piano night. Dana excels at being with a child, at encouraging them, working with them and helping them see themselves as a musician. I am delighted to be able to recommend her to others.
